Palais du Gouverneur, Metz
The plans for this building, which was to serve as a local residence for the Emporer Wilhelm II, were elaborated by the architect Schönhals in Berlin. However, it was the architect Stolterfoth who oversaw the on-site construction. The neo-Renaissance style palace is in the shape of a wide “V” and has 106 rooms, 400 lamps and 5 gables each pointing in a different direction. There are a loggia and a veranda on the back façade. The ornaments are a mix of gothic and Renaissance style references.
