Based on the Merzbau models by Kurt Schwitters (1887-1948), students in their first, second and third year at the art school ESAMM have entered into a work in progress, a sort of proliferating machine, a gigantic chalk mural on the walls fully coated in black board paint, an invading sculpture perpetually growing integrating text, sound and video.
The Metzbau project is also a game on the net (http://metzbau. hautetfort.com), in a question/answer format, and based on a graphic representation in the form of an arborescence that grows depending on the number of participants.
In this way, Metzbau actually turns out to be a vast internal and external workshop that, like a rumour, propagates via showings and retransmissions, either instantaneously or at the rate of speech...
